Melbourne Store Held Up At Gunpoint And It's Weird.

Staff at a Napean Highway store were forced to release a thief on Thursday after a companion of the thief in silver BMW pointed a gun at them told them to ‘let him go’.

The bizarre incident unfolded just after 1PM, when a Caucasian man in his mid 20s arrived at a Bentleigh store in a silver BMW car and selected two helmets.

The man is described as about 175 to 180 centimetres, with short dark wavy hair, then approached the counter asking the staff if he could buy the items.

He then took off with the helmets without paying.

Staff managed to chase him for 50 metres along the Nepean Highway before pinning him down.

But within about 30 seconds, the BMW reappeared with a woman driving and a man in the back seat.

The rear passenger pointed what is believed to be a firearm out the window before saying "let him go".

The staff released the man, who fled south in the vehicle with the two others.

The registration of the BMW sedan is SWD003 and is yet to be located.

Anyone with information about the theft or who locates the vehicle is urged to contact triple zero immediately.
