Melbourne Man Rescued After Floating Down The River

A bartender has jumped into the Yarra River to save a drowning man in Melbourne overnight.

The bartender noticed a man floating down the river late last night, near The Wharf Hotel.

The man was struggling to remain afloat and was calling out for help.

The barman Matt said he wasn’t keen to get in the water but stripped off quickly before diving in.

“I wasn’t real keen to jump in the Yarra ... but I’m glad he’s all right,” Matt said last night. He then pulled the man to the north bank of the river where bystanders helped in performing CPR.

The man in his 30s was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Police this morning will investigate how the man came to be in the Yarra in the first place.
