Melbourne At The Centre Of Two Police Shootings In 12 Hours

A man is in hospital with gunshot wounds and two others are in custody following two police shootings in Melbourne in less than 12 hours.

A 26-year-old man suffered wounds to his torso when police opened fire on him in Dandenong on Wednesday afternoon.

Two officers had pulled his car over for a routine check and had chased him through back blocks and over fences when he fled the scene before pointing a gun at them.

He was taken a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery.

Assistant Commissioner Robert Hill said the officers involved had done an "exceptional job facing some challenging and trying circumstances".

That shooting was the second time police opened fire on Wednesday, earlier exchanging gunfire with a woman during an early morning drug raid, less than seven kilometres away in Keysborough.

No one was injured and drugs were seized from the property.

A man, 39, and a woman, 33, both from Keysborough, were arrested at the scene.

The shootings, both in Melbourne's southeastern suburbs, involved officers based at Dandenong Police Station.
