Security Changes Set In Place For Punters At Melbourne's MCG
The MCG security fence – which was installed for Big Bash League and international cricket matches last summer – will not be returning this season.
The 'cyclone fencing' was erected 20-25 metres away from the ground's perimeter and was trilled last summer in the wake of the November 2015 deadly Paris terror attacks - which targeted the Stade de France in Paris during a soccer match.
Victoria Police assistant commissioner Stephen Leane said at the time the fence would help deal with the "ugly reality" of terrorism.
Bag checks and wanding were conducted at the fence, with an express lane offered for those without bags.
The fence was removed for the 2016 AFL season, instead bag checks and wanding at the MCG occurred at tables stationed just outside the entry gates, rather than being set back from the stadium.
According to The Age, the MCC has confirmed that those same arrangements will be kept for Big Bash League and international cricket matches this summer, rather than a reversion to the cyclone fencing used last season.
