Man Seriously Injured Following Home Explosion
Air ambulance helicopters were called to treat two people with burns after separate incidents east of Melbourne late yesterday.
A man aged in his 40s was injured in an explosion in his garden shed at Ferntree Gully at about 5.20pm.
The man has burns to the head, back, hands and legs. He also has a leg fracture as a result of the explosion.
Neighbours provided first aid by cooling the man's burns before paramedics arrived.
Due to the potential for burns to the airway which could swell and restrict breathing, paramedics put the man into an induced coma and inserted a tube into his airway to take over his breathing.
He was moved to the air ambulance helicopter and flown to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition.
