Emergency services were called to the fire, at a home at Macleod, about 6am on Wednesday and rescued the man, a woman and a primary school boy.
The man, in his 50s, is in a critical condition at the Alfred Hospital with burns to his hands, feet and face.
The boy and woman in her 40s were assessed at the scene for smoke inhalation and taken to the Austin Hospital for observation. They are both in a stable condition.
