FINALLY! Some Amazing News For Melbourne's Road Users

We've had to put up with some pretty painful roadworks, but, the widening of CityLink between Flemington Road and the Westgate will finally reach completion, in the early hours of Saturday the 1st of April.

Drivers will be able to enjoy an additional traffic lane, in each direction, between Flemington Road and the Westgate Freeway, including the Bolte Bridge.

They've also upgraded the overhead lane signage, which will be able to turn any lane into an emergency lane, and will also provide almost real-time updates on lane closures and changes in speed limits.

Roads Minister Luke Donnellan spoke with the Herald Sun, detailing the work so far.

“We’re getting on with the job and opening up 9km of extra lanes that will slash travel times and boost safety for drivers travelling between the airport and the city."

He also said that construction crews were working “around the clock to get the job done”.

The CityLink Tulla Widening Project, encompassing 24 kilometres from Melbourne Airport through to Power Street (Southbank) is due to be finished in 2018.
