Karen Ristevski Case Is 'No Accident'
The stepson of missing Melbourne mother Karen Ristevski is no accident, and he believes she has run away from her family and ‘fake marriage’ to start a new life.
Anthony Rickard, 32, defended his father on Wednesday, saying he did not have anything to do with her disappearance and thought his step-mother had fled.
Ms Ristevski, 47, was last seen on June 29 leaving her Avondale Heights home and has since prompted large-scale police searches, but little information is known about her family.
In his police statement, taken in July, Mr Rickard detailed a decade-long family dispute and strained marriage between Mrs Ristevski and his father, Borce.
Rickard told authorities that the relationship between his father and step-mother was fake, and they only stayed together to maintain their image and wealth, according to the Australian.
The statement said Mr Rickard confronted his father about the “situation with Karen” in 2006, but it was unable to be resolved and instead saw him kicked out of the home.
Mr Rickard admitted to a "nightmare" childhood and said he has recently been using the drug ice more and more recently.
The events in thee lead up to Ristevski’s disappearance on June 29 have conflicting versions, with Mr Ristevski saying his wife had gone for a walk after an argument.
However, the CCTV footage from their home does not show Karen leaving.
