Collingwood Champion Set To Announce His Retirement TODAY
Collingwood champion Dane Swan will walk away from football today and is set to be compensated for thousands of dollars for the foot injury that has forced his exit.
It is expected that he will be paid $400,000.
The compensation clause is part of the AFL Players Association collective bargaining agreement which allowed players who suffer a career ending injury to access 50 percent of their base salary in the last year of their contract.
Players have to prove that the injury is new, but it is not expected to be a problem for Swan.
The Brownlow medallist has broken three bones, including a fracture of his Lisfranc, which happened in the opening minutes in Collingwood's first round match against Sydney.
