Aussie Schoolies Boy Had Crushed Up Caffeine and Painkillers
This week the county held their breath as it was reported a teenage boy was found with white powder on his person at Kuta's Sky Garden nightclub.
He and his friends claim 18-year-old Jamie Murphy was ‘set-up’, as he ‘doesn’t even drink’. He spent two horror days in custody after police used excessive force that was caught on video.
But after extensive forensic testing, police conceded that the powder was in fact a perfectly legal mixture of four materials including caffeine and headache tablets.
Just after 9.30pm on Wednesday night in Bali, Kuta Police chief Wayan Sumara said Murphy would face no charges and was a 'very lucky' boy.
Sky Garden nightclub also issued an apology for Murphy's 'rough treatment' and the 'excessive force' used by staff when he was searched upon arrival.
Footage taken during a reenactment in front of the club's security chief on the second floor showed Murphy wincing in pain as his face was squished together.
'Regarding the complaints we received about the apparent rough treatment of Jamie by our security at the mobile police station, we would like to extend our sincere apology to Jamie, his family, and friends,' the club said in a statement.
'We have reprimanded the security in question, and he will not be permitted to come back to work until he has completed and passed another round of police security training.'
