ANOTHER Melbourne Shopping Is Set For A HUGE Expansion
Posted on October 24, 2016
Highpoint Shopping Centre is set to become Australia’s second largest under new plans to expand and build a university, hotel and medical hub.
The GPT group wants to turn the shopping couple in Maribyrnong into a major town square with a potential for a hotel, apartments, healthcare and a university.
Under design plans, the east side of Highpoint in Warrs Road will be expanded by 30,000sqm to include a new Coles as well as fresh food stalls, international outlets as well as leisure and entertainment spaces such as an urban forest relaxation area.
The redevelopment is likely to start in 2018 and will be completed by 2020.
The expansion will see Highpoint’s total area become 185,000 sqm, which is bigger than Fountain Gate and Knox, even after their planned expansions!
GPT spokesman Scott Rochfort said they were still in the planning stages and were yet to lodge any development applications.
Any plans would need to be approved by Maribyrnong Council.
