A 'Seriously Dangerous' Criminal Has Escaped From Jail
A 20-year-old man has escaped from a Victorian juvenile justice centre, fleeing in a ute with South Australian number plates waiting outside.
Lachlan Mitchell was serving a 12-month sentence for numerous serious driving and firearm offences and left the Malmsbury centre about 2pm on Tuesday.
He got into a black ute with the South Australian number plate XAA230.
Mitchell is described as having blue eyes and short hair, wearing black shorts, white runners, a grey t-shirt and black jumper.
Police say anyone who sees him should call triple-zero.
Mitchell was sentenced on March 11 by the Warrnambool Magistrates Court.
Malmsbury is Victoria's highest security youth prison, and is one of two youth justice centres operating in Victoria.
In October, about a dozen youths aged 16 and 17 confronted prison officers at the centre, rioting for several hours.
Children's Minister Jenny Mikakos said the teens who rioted had been moved there because they caused problems at other prisons.
