Woman Buys iPhone In ‘Black Friday Sale’, Gets 11 Potatoes

Black Friday sales draw out all kinds of people searching for a good deal. However, one woman was duped by a conning man claiming to be selling items out of a black truck with balloons and a sign taped to it reading: “Black Friday Sale”.

The place of purchase already sounds suspicious enough but that didn’t seem to deter the unidentified victim. She recalled, “They have everything you could name: clothes, shoes, watches, purses, bundles of hair, DVDs, CDs - everything - phones, laptops. So, I asked the guy about the iPhone 6 and he’s like, ‘Ah yeah, today, I will give it to you for $100’.”

Admittedly, that’s sounds like quite a bargain! Just $100 for a functioning iPhone. If something sounds too good to be true, it generally is. The woman learned this the hard way after opening up her shiny new box just to see a bunch of chopped up potatoes! The spuds fit perfectly into the box and weighed just as much as an iPhone would’ve weighed.

The woman took to LiveLeak to share her disappointment at seeing 11 potatoes instead of an iPhone.

Before you start to question how anyone could fall for such a scam, it should be noted that the conman took many steps to ensure he was as convincing as possible. When the woman asked the man to take a look at the phone he handed her one that was in good condition. To check the phone was actually working, the woman asked him to call the phone and it rang.

She then left $100 poorer and with what she thought was her iPhone. To add insult to injury, an android charger was packed inside the box too!

This is a life lesson for anyone looking to buy electronics out of a van off the street.
