Have You Been Eating Caged Eggs Without Realising It?
If you've made the decision to avoid consuming products containing eggs from caged chickens, it now turns out you may have been inadvertently eating them hidden away in certain products.
The RSPCA has uncovered a loophole which lets brands use caged eggs in their products without actually stating it on the packaging.
9news has reported that food products including cake and biscuit mixes have sneakily using caged eggs in products.
Australian mum Odette Sutch said that after discovering the truth that: 'It's hypocritical to make a conscious decision to decide from the shelves, to pay a bit more to do the right thing, and then be oblivious to the fact that you're consuming it elsewhere in your life. I was completely ignorant.'
'It has really struck a chord with me, I won't be risking it anymore.'
The RSPCA claims an overwhelming majority of Aussies want to see only CAGE-FREE products available on their supermarket shelves.
RSCPA manager of humane food Hope Bertram said while there's been a call to change from consumers, there are still more than 10 million hens living in small cages.
