Pink Opens Up About Having A Miscarriage At Age 17

The pop star, who released her eighth studio album Hurts 2B Human last week, shared the meaning of a few tracks on the project during an interview with USA Today Monday.

One tune, in particular, titled "Happy," the singer says, recalls the heartbreaking memory of losing a child at 17-years-old.

In explaining the poignant lyrics, “Since I was 17, I’ve always hated my body/ and it feels like my body’s hated me,” the 39-year-old told the news outlet: "The reason I said [that] is because I’ve always had this very tomboy, very strong gymnast body, but actually at 17 I had a miscarriage. And I was going to have that child.”

“But when that happens to a woman or a young girl, you feel like your body hates you and like your body is broken, and it’s not doing what it’s supposed to do,” Pink added, before revealing she's suffered "several miscarriages" since then.

Despite the harmful stigma concerning miscarriages, however, the "Love Me Anyway" star, who has spoken openly about being in therapy, thinks "it’s important to talk about what you’re ashamed of, who you really are and the painful s**t. I’ve always written that way.”

“I believe in self-confrontation and just getting things out. What I love about therapy is that they’ll tell you what your blind spots are,” the musician continued. “Although that’s uncomfortable and painful, it gives you something to work with.”

In a recent interview with Today, Pink, who shares two children with husband Carey Hart, revealed she and Hart have been in couples counselling almost their entire relationship, and credits the process for their successful marriage today.
